Carl's Nook

Carl Linnaeus

Linnaeus is referred to as the father of systematic botany for his work on the classification of plants which he undertook in the 18th century. This bucolic little snap was taken in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens in December of 2007 with a Sony DSC-H2 fixed lens camera. I could go into great and windy detail about why I like this photo, but I think maybe it is best if I just let the pic speak for itself.

Candid Kids

Untitled

This charming little portrait was captured in the Adelaide botanic gardens last year. As is always the case with taking photo's like this one, I was ever mindfull of the potential to incite parental rage. So far, I have avoided any serious confrontations, but I expect sooner or later that my luck will run out.

Bush fires and cool water

Abstract Sepia

Thank god it's cool again at last. After the heat wave which we have recently endured in Adelaide, I wouldn't care if I never had to live through another filthy Adelaide summer again. Pity the poor bastards in Victoria's bushfires. At last count, about 130 bodies had been found, and there are bound to be more. It appears also that somewhere in the region of 1000 homes have been destroyed. Hard to imagine what all those people who have lost everything they ever owned are going through. One of the more revolting aspects of these kinds of disasters is the way that our bloody politicians all scramble for the nearest charter plane so that they can get their mugs on the evening news hugging and kissing the bereft and the bereaved in order to convince us all of their innate humanity and compassion; utterly sickening. They would do better to stay the hell out of it and let those whose job it is to care for these unfortunates get on with their job.
There, I feel a lot better now that I have that off my chest. About the picture above; this picture was taken in December last year. It is part of the West End brewery Chrissy display reflected in the Torrens River. The image has then been artfully re worked by yours truly. In light of what I spoke of in the paragraph above, I felt that the water theme was apt. P.S. Facebook didn't work out as an appropriate place to utilize for viewing photo's, so we are going to try Picasa. Something has to work sometime!!!
Cheers for now.
Cooee to anyone who happens to stumble across my humble little blog. All this blogging and uploading of images sure can keep a fellow busy. If you have previously looked at my site, you would know that I was intending to use a flikr site to display my images, however there were one or two things about this site which did not really suit me. So, We are going to try out using my facebook site and see how that pans out. Needless to say, it will take me a couple of days to straighten things out on this site. However, in the meantime you may still view some of my photo's there, and I hope that you will forgive the mess.

Cheers for now.

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of .............

Silhouette 2

The photograph above is one which I took one evening some months ago on the grounds of the Adelaide University. Today, I was granted permission to display this picture in a commercial gallery, and hopefully it will interest someone sufficiently that they will be willing to part with some money for it.
Like many enthusiasts, my dream is to find a way to make my passion pay sufficiently well that I am able to give up jobbing for a living. My problem is that I want to do it on my own terms and not have sell my soul by doing the kind of photography that I detest ( Think 'Studio' type portraits and 'Happy Family' photography ). In the meantime, the bills still need to be paid and the cravings for the latest gadget needs to be sated. The object of my desires is currently the Sony A900 with 24 lovely mega dots; yum yum.
So, my dearest hope is that my picture be so popular that the gallery owner will be begging me for more of my work so that I spend the rest of my days clicking away and making the kinds of photo's that I love. Ah, but for now, it's just a dream.

I'm a blogger now !

Fly

Day 1; Today, I become a blogger. The purpose of this site is primarily to publish my photographs so that others may view my work, and, if they like what they see, purchase printed copies. As I am new at this blogging caper, it may take me a while to sort everything out; please be patient.
As well as publishing photographs, I will no doubt also engage in a little ruminating, postulating, opinionating, and so on and so forth. (Yes, I know there is no such word as opinionating, but I am quite sure that you all get the idea.)
And so, that is about all for now.
